The clinical section of IAGG-ER has its focus on geriatrics: diseases, clinical conditions and geriatric syndromes that older people present with– such as frailty — which are prevalent in older people. The aims are preventative, curative, educational and where appropriate palliative and cover acute and emergency situations, chronic conditions, rehabilitation, prevention and end-of-life care as well as education and training. In clinical medicine geriatrics has a holistic function (“supraspecialty”);it treats patients more broadly than other medical specialties that focus on single organs. With its multidisciplinary role, the clinical section of IAGG-ER brings together not only physicians but also nurses, physiotherapists, function (occupational) therapists, social workers, researchers and all experts working in the clinical (both hospital and open care) setting for the benefits of older patients. At the European level, the clinical section of IAGG-ER aims to work in good collaboration — not only with other sections of the IAGG-ER — but also with the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS), the Union European of Medical Specialists- Geriatric Medicine Section (UEMS-GMS), and the European Academy for Medicine of Ageing (EAMA).
