IAGG-ER MISSION
The mission of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is to promote the highest levels of achievement in gerontological research and training worldwide, and to interact with other international, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations in the promotion of gerontological interests globally and on behalf of its member associations. The Association pursues these activities with a view of enhancing the highest quality of life and well being of all people as they experience ageing at individual and societal levels.
The IAGG European Region has four main purposes in addition to any other affair as determined by the IAGG Council: to promote gerontological research in the biological, medical, behavioural, and social sciences (including humanities and anthropological sciences) by member organizations and to promote cooperation among these organizations; to promote training of highly qualified personnel in the field of ageing; to promote the interests of the gerontological organizations in all questions pertaining to International matters; to promote and assist in the arrangements for holding the European Congress of Gerontology at intervals determined by the Council, as well as assist in planning the International Congress of the IAGG.
Position Statement of IAGG-ER to Stop the War in Ukraine and for Peace
We ask the members of all gerontological and geriatric societies comprising IAGG-ER to support all people escaping from Ukraine, including refugees, students, women, children and especially old people.
As European scientists we call on President Putin to stop his war against Ukraine immediately.
The socio-behavioral section of IAGG-ER, in conjunction with the Gerontological Society of America’s Interest Group on International Aging and Migration, cordially invites you to a mini-lecture series and informal discussion about the situation of older people in the Ukraine with three leading experts in aging (Dr. Igor V. Persidsky who is a Ukraine-born, USA-based geriatrician); Dr. Jolanta Perek-Białas (who is re-known European social gerontologist based at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow in Poland) and Dr. Alistair Hunter (who is a re-known European scholar specializing in migration and aging based at the University of Glasgow, UK).
